Joann Thornton, born 1964, grew up in South
Orange, New Jersey. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking
from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI and her Bachelor of
Arts in Printmaking from the Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. Ms. Thornton
began investigating alternative photographic processes once she moved to
New York in 1990. She had always utilized photography in her printmaking
so it was a natural transition for her work. She has taught as an adjuct
instructor of Printmaking, Book Arts and Photography at Rutgers University
and is currently represented by the George Billis Gallery in Chelsea, New
York. Her work is in numerous collections including the McNay Art Museum
of Art, Orono, Maine and the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham,
Massachusetts. The artist currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY |
